Skylar Posey

Sustainability isn’t just a passion for Skylar Posey, it’s a lifelong commitment inspired by her education and leadership here at San Diego State University. Skylar Posey is currently a junior studying Business Management at SDSU.

As the Associated Students Green Love Representative and PSAC (Presidential Sustainability Advisory Committee) Student Topic Lead, Skylar plays an active role in advancing sustainability efforts across campus, with a strong focus on increasing awareness on food insecurity and composting.

Skylar grew up near the coast in San Diego which developed her appreciation for protecting the environment. Sustainability has become a natural part of her life, from participating in beach cleanups and composting at home with her family. Her interest further developed from taking courses in high school such as AP Environmental Science and Biology which led toward her involvement in sustainability in college.

Skylar contributes to many sustainable initiatives at SDSU. She helps organize events such as GBM’s for Green Love, GreenFest, Swap Shop, Cooking with Chefs, etc. which all promote sustainability in different ways through campus. Her work with PSAC has led to awareness about campus resources related to food security and composting. She is also speaking at the 4th Annual Sustainability Summit which is happening April 22, 2026 from 10am-3pm in Montezuma Hall!

Looking ahead, Skylar is focused on expanding sustainability efforts on campus, including increasing compost bins around campus and promoting initiatives like renting graduation caps and gowns to reduce waste. Her post graduation plans are to pursue a career in sustainability management, helping organizations stay accountable to environmentally responsible practices.

“I definitely want to stay within the more hands-on and involved side of the sustainability team in a company.” said Skylar.

Skylar has made a strong impact on sustainability initiatives at SDSU and will continue making a difference with her time here.
