Bio

As the Food and Compost Intern, I am responsible for managing and expanding the Office Compost Program alongside our other compost intern, Julia. Together, we work to divert organic waste by conducting routine pickups of compost from participating
offices, weighing them, and recording the weight data. These weights are then uploaded to a live tracker which can be found on our website. I also develop informational content
and outreach strategies to educate SDSU students, faculty and staff on composting initiatives and how to compost correctly. I love working with the offices in our program, and it’s exciting to see how enthusiastic everyone is about composting and to witness these sustainability efforts in action. My hope is to reduce the stigma around composting and teach others how they can do their part to combat food waste here at SDSU.

Sustainability Origin Story:
While I have always been interested in the environment, I didn’t know that I wanted to major in Sustainability until my 2nd year of college. In highschool, I was in MUN and took a Globalization class which piqued my interest in the field. Back then, I didn’t even know that studying Sustainability was an option until I came to SDSU. I think that what led me to choose it in the end was its interdisciplinary nature. I love Sustainability as a major because it takes an approach to solving environmental issues that includes the needs of all people and addresses these issues holistically. I believe that in order to live sustainably, we must understand that humans are a part of nature, not separate from it, and Sustainability as a major really encompasses that value. It is also something that can be integrated into virtually everything we do, and I want to be a part of making that happen in my community.
