Bio

As the AASHE STARS intern, I am responsible for collecting and reporting data to the STARS portal. AASHE is short for the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, which seeks to empower sustainability innovation in faculty, administrators, staff, and students in higher education. STARS stands for Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System, a self-reporting program that determines the sustainability performance of universities. The reporting tool contains 5 categories: Academics, Engagement, Planning Administration, Operations, and Innovation and Leadership. SDSU is currently rated as Gold, but we are close to getting a Platinum rating.

Sustainability Origin Story: Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I was lucky enough to spend my childhood hiking, camping, and exploring the outdoors, which made me appreciate the natural world from a young age. In high school, I was introduced to the concept of Environmental Justice in my Spanish class, which made me realize that it is a privilege to be able to spend time in the outdoors, and that the Climate Crisis will disproportionately affect certain groups of people. This realization inspired me to do everything I can to create a sustainable future for everyone, and work to protect the natural environment. I aim to pursue a career in Sustainability to help make these big changes, but I also try to be as sustainable as I can in my personal life by composting, thrifting, and more!
