As the Compost Intern, I work with the other fellow Compost Intern to expand our Office Composting Program across campus. My responsibilities include managing and organizing the program, communicating across departments about composting, and working with our OES team to spread awareness on the importance of composting. I’ve always been passionate about the environment and composting is one area of sustainability that I’m excited to make a larger impact on.

Sustainability Origin Story: I grew up in a suburb of Minneapolis, Minnesota, where nature and lakes are plentiful. There is a large push in Minnesota to conserve and preserve our natural resources, so this community has had a large impact on my passion. I’m also half Brazilian, so I’ve been fortunate enough to visit family in Brazil almost every year of my life. Because of my visits, I’ve been able to gain a larger perspective on the world, and for me that means how humans treat the environment. The culture in Brazil differs greatly from where I grew up, so something that sparked my passion for saving our planet were these differences and it showed me the importance of taking care of our home. My family has been practicing sustainability in our home for as long as I can remember. From using reusable bags to composting, sustainability is something that is ingrained in the way I live. I hope to spread awareness about all things compost and sustainable living to prove everyone can live sustainably to make a difference for our planet!
