Kate Riegel

Kate Riegel is a San Diego State University Alumni who graduated from the University in the Spring of 2024. While on campus, Kate received a B.A. in Sustainability and a minor in Business Administration along with advancing her passion for Sustainable Outreach through The Office of Energy & Sustainability and Associated Students, Green Love. Post-graduation Kate has accepted a position as a Public Outreach Coordinator at San Diego Community Power. 

Kate served as the Outreach Intern for the Office of Energy & Sustainability at SDSU from 2021-2023. She continued her career by accepting a position for The City of San Diego, Stormwater Department as the Think Blue Intern. She describes these two positions as the most important in furthering her career in public outreach due to their heavy focus on event planning, and public communications. “Without starting at OES, I would not be where I am today” Kate stated. 

 Though only working for San Diego Community Power for a month, Kate has expressed her excitement and motivation for her work. Her position focuses Her position focuses on educating San Diego residents on Community Power’s programs and services. San Diego Community Power is a community-driven, not-for-profit public agency providing cleaner energy to the San Diego region. “My main responsibilities within my position are engaging with the public at events and talking about clean energy and why it is so important. I have already learned so much more about clean energy and why it makes a difference. I’m excited to educate and engage the community about San Diego Community Power’s work to create a clean and affordable energy future.”

 “I am looking forward to seeing where this position takes me and would love to further my career in Sustainability Outreach. I could also see myself working as a teacher, educating students on a topic like Environmental Studies.” The experience Kate has gained through numerous jobs and volunteer opportunities has provided her with various skills and career paths that focus on sustainability. 

 Kate shows a true passion and dedication to sustainability education efforts and has advanced her career by involving herself in various organizations. San Diego State University’s Sustainability Program has provided Kate with the materials needed to enter the workforce prepared and excited. Congrats Kate!
