What inspired you to major in Environmental Geology?
When I first came to SDSU, I was interested in a major that would provide a hands on approach to improving the environment. At the time, Environmental Engineering seemed like a perfect fit, however, I soon realized that I wouldn’t have the freedom to work in the outdoors. After talking to the father of one of my best friends, I learned that Environmental Geology was a popular career path that would allow me to both improve the environment and work in the outdoors. Since declaring a major in Environmental Geology, I’ve felt like I can directly interact with my surroundings and make a real difference in improving the environment.
Is there a certain area of Environmental Geology that you find the most interesting?
Having lived my whole life by the beach, I find any environmental field that has to do with water interesting. My love for the ocean inspires me to protect it in any way that I can.
As a member of Greeks Gone Green, what do you hope to accomplish by implementing more sustainable practices in Greek Life at SDSU?
My goal is to help increase the awareness of sustainability within the Greek community by first implementing common sustainable practices and ideas ( like more recycling bins) which are currently lacking in Greek Life at State. Since the Greek community is fairly large at SDSU, even if just a couple of houses practice a few sustainable habits at first, these combined efforts will make a huge impact in the long run. Within the next couple of years, I hope to see all of Greek Life recycling and composting.
What types of energy projects are you currently working on as an intern for Campus Sustainability?
Currently, I’m analyzing the energy usage of the Aztec Recreation Center (ARC) in order to better understand how to improve the energy efficiency of the ARC for future years. I am also analyzing the impact that solar golf carts have on campus in terms of improving energy efficiency and reducing campus emissions.
Has your internship experience with Campus Sustainability inspired you to continue to pursue a career in the environmental field?
My internship experience with Campus Sustainability has definitely inspired me to pursue a career in the environmental field. After seeing how many people are either unaware of environmental issues or are resistant to change, I want to do everything I can to help people better understand that sustainability matters.
