Agni Herur is a third-year Finance Major. He is currently working as the Green Office Intern for the Office of Energy and Sustainability. He manages office certification on campus, analyzing their sustainability levels and providing a ranking.

Agni’s job is to look over and certify SDSU offices for their level of sustainability. There are multiple levels of ranking varying from Bronze to Platinum that an office can receive. Right now he is working on getting all of the College of Arts and Letters at SDSU certified under Green Office

Though he is currently a finance major, he has a shared interest in the business world and sustainability. “I wasn't fully sure what I was interested in pursuing a career in when I accepted the job here at OES. After working with the office for over a year now I've realized I would love to go into the insurance sector. Everything needs to be insured, and that can be done in a sustainable way. Insuring is similar to my job analyzing green offices, I am looking over aspects of the building and determining eligibility. I could incorporate things like LEED certification into my work in the insurance sector, integrating sustainability with my career path. I have become more aware of risks and outcomes with this job and I've gained lots of knowledge for my future.”

Sustainability Origin Story:
“Growing up my dad would spend lots of time making planters and creating home gardens. We’ve grown our own vegetables since I was in 10th grade which has shaped my view of at-home sustainability. We use lots of our homegrown ingredients in the kitchen. My mom is a big cook and uses our curry leaf plant in almost every meal. Growing our own food has helped limit our carbon footprint, rather than driving to the store to get a specific ingredient. Along with that, I grew up camping, I spent a lot of time at Agua Caliente National Park which has made me love the outdoors.”

Advice:
“Sustainability is a field that isn't too restrictive, you don't have to be a sustainability major to be involved and make a change. You must be willing to try, learn, and believe in change. Sustainability starts in the community as we revolve around each other and the planet. Everyone needs to be mindful of their personal actions that impact the local community because that is where change starts”

In Agni's free time, he loves to play tennis and is the Vice President of Club Tennis at San Diego State University. He is a part of Green Love through associated students, along with various other green organizations on campus. One of his favorite sustainable activities around San Diego is going to HotSpot Flea Market.
