Bio
As a Food and Compost Intern, I work with the Office Compost Program to help reduce organic waste on our campus. As a team, Joe and I collect compost from participating offices. We maintain sanitation, weigh the scraps collected, and track the data. The information is uploaded to a tracker on our website so we can see how much waste is being diverted from landfills over time. Our compost program encourages more people on our campus to take part in sustainable waste practices.
Sustainability Origin Story: I grew up in a suburb of Houston, where I experienced the impacts of urban heat islands, flooding, and rapid sprawl. Living through these issues made me interested in learning how cities can be designed in more sustainable ways. Growing up, I found small ways to reduce my impact such as composting at home. My family supported my interests by diverting food waste into landfills and turning into something we could use in the garden. Through school, I’ve learned more about waste management and sustainability, which has strengthened my passion. There are many ways to positively make change and I'm excited to help others better understand sustainable practices.
