Bio
As a Compost Intern, I support campus waste diversion efforts by collecting compost from offices across campus and helping to expand participation in the composting program. My work includes servicing compost routes, assisting with outreach about what materials can be composted, and supporting initiatives that reduce landfill waste and promote sustainability at SDSU. I am interested in practical approaches to sustainability that can help institutions manage waste more responsibly while also encouraging sustainability practices in the day to day.
Sustainability Origin Story: My interest in sustainability developed through time spent outdoors growing up near the San Elijo Lagoon. Regular walks through the lagoon’s trails and wetlands created an early awareness of local ecosystems and the importance of protecting them. Activities such as camping, hiking, and exploring coastal and inland landscapes deepened that connection to the environment. Over time, that interest turned into active involvement in sustainability efforts, including participation in organizations on SDSU campus such as Save Soil and Epsilon Eta. These experiences led me to a focus on sustainability work that supports environmental stewardship and responsible resource use.
